Benefactor Mike Miles Shares "The Try" with Miles Scholars at our Catholic High Schools

Mike and Clara Miles believe that Catholic education transforms lives. They established the Michael M. and Clara Miles Scholarship Fund at the Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso in 2009 to ensure that more students and their families would have access to a high school education at Cathedral, Father Yermo, and Loretto Academy.

They didn’t stop with a large gift. They take an active role in the students’ lives and make it a point to visit with them during the school year. Mike and Clara also thoughtfully select a book for the Miles Scholars to read and report on each year. This year, they chose “The Try: The Secret to Success in Life and Career” by James P. Owen, a 40-year veteran of Wall Street, bestselling author, speaker, film producer, and workshop leader.

Mike personally delivered the books to each Miles Scholar at the three high schools, visited with them, talked about the importance of hard work, and left the scholars with a quote from Mr. Owen: “All it takes is all you’ve got…”
