The Catholic Foundation is pleased to welcome a new permanent, endowed fund for Cathedral High School. The fund was establlshed with a pledge of $100,000.

The Huerta Scholarship and Technology Fund for Cathedral High School was established by Jose L. “Joe” Huerta, Cathedral High School Class of 1966. The primary goal of the endowment is to provide consistent scholarship support and funding for technology in perpetuity.

The Huerta Fund makes the 105th fund in the Catholic Legacy Fund, the Catholic Foundation’s endowment program.

Endowed funds established through the Catholic Foundation ensure that the corpus of the donation is preserved, while income earned on the investment is available for use each year for the beneficiary. They are excellent vehicles for donors wishing to provide long-term support for parishes, schools, ministries, and charities in the Diocese of El Paso.

Joe Huerta established the Huerta Scholarship & Technology Fund for Cathedral High School in honor of his family. Joe (’66), and his brothers, are proud Cathedral alumni. Michael Huerta graduated from Cathedral in 1965. Phil Huerta graduated in 1971. Their sisters, Leticia Huerta (’67) and Ana G. Huerta (’70), are Loretto Academy alumnae. All five siblings attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in El Paso.

Joe earned a Bachelor of Science and master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He married Denise Descouzis in 1984 and has been blessed with a successful career in engineering and a happy personal life. Joe and Denise live in Austin.

Joe is inviting Cathedral men and their families to consider legacy gifts of $100,000 for permanent endowed funds or direct operating needs for Cathedral High School in honor of the upcoming celebration of the 100th anniversary of Cathedral High School in 1925. Donations can be paid over five years. Recognition and naming opportunities are available. You can contribute to the Huerta Scholarship and Technology Fund for Cathedral High School in any amount or create a Named Fund with a gift of $10,000 or more. There is no minimum requirement to contribute to an existing endowed fund. Gifts of any size are welcome, and are essential to Cathedral High School’s mission.
