Steward of the Year 2021
Steward of the Year 2021

The Catholic Foundation is proud to announce the 4th Annual Steward of the Year contest!

We’re in search of exceptional individuals who have demonstrated a Stewardship way of life at their parish, in ministry, or in our Catholic schools.

The Catholic Foundation invites pastors, parish administrators, diocesan ministry directors, and Catholic school principals to nominate ministers, volunteers, or educators—young and old—they believe used their gifts and talents to their fullest potential, and generously helped those in great need, during the pandemic.

The Catholic Foundation expanded the Steward of the Year nomination criteria to include seven categories inspired by holiness.

  • Saint Toribio Romo, patron saint of Mexican migrants and “border crossers”. This category will recognize an outstanding individual devoted to the service of refugees and immigrants.

  • Saint Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa), the “mother of the poor.” This category will recognize an outstanding individual who is devoted to the service of the homebound (food pantries, delivery of food and supplies).

  • Saint Teresa Benedict of the Cross (Edith Stein), who loved and nurtured those around her during the Nazi occupation. This category will recognize an outstanding individual who is devoted to the service of those who have suffered the loss of their loved ones due to COVID-19 virus.

  • Saint Juan Diego, Our Lady’s messenger of hope. This category will recognize an outstanding individual who uses communication and evangelization tools to bring the face of Christ to His people.

  • Saint John of God, patron saint of the sick, nurses, and hospitals. This category will recognize an outstanding individual who is devoted to the service of the sick.

  • Saint John Baptist de la Salle, patron saint of teachers. This category will recognize an outstanding individual who serves as a catechist or in Catholic school formation.

  • Blessed Carlo Acutis, A young devout Catholic who loved computers and video games. This category will recognize an outstanding individual of any age who is dedicated to the service of youth and young adults.

The Steward of the Year will be recognized on the Catholic Foundation’s website, social media, and during the 15th Annual Foundation of Faith Event: Ignite your Hearts on Thursday, September 23, 2021, as well as in the Rio Grande Catholic.

In addition, the Steward of the Year will receive a gift card to a restaurant, and the respective parish, ministry, or Catholic school will receive $1,000. Category winners will receive $50 each.
